About Piedmont High School Boosters Club
The mission of PHS Boosters is to support and facilitate the interscholastic athletic program at PHS. PHS Boosters was founded in 1978 and currently supports over 40 interscholastic athletic teams.
Boosters works with the community, the Board of Education and the PHS administration (especially the Principal and the Men’s and the Women’s Athletic Directors) to carry out its mission. Boosters:
- promotes a high standard of athletic competition and sportsmanship
- raises funds that support ALL sports at PHS
- stimulates community support and spirit for PHS athletics
- identifies areas where support and funding are needed
Coaching Stipends
Historically, PHS Boosters funded basic operating expenses of the athletic program for all athletes in excess of $50,000 per year. In 2007-8, PHS Boosters, along with representatives of the Piedmont Parents Club and PHS administration, identified the need to increase coaching stipends to competitive levels. Starting in the fall of 2008 athletes will be asked to make an Athletic Participation Contribution to fund competitive coaching stipend levels, provide for basic levels of athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coaching as well as pay for assistant coaches. With this change, the Piedmont Unified School District will assume responsibility for funding basic operating expenses, and PHS Boosters will focus more on special programs and equipment support.
Athlete Health
Athlete health is a special priority of PHS Boosters. Boosters instigated and funded the use of the ImPACT concussion diagnostic program to aid trainers, coaches and parents to assess and make decisions around athletes who sustained concussions. Boosters also conduct Educational Forums on various health topics through the year.
Team Liaisons
Each and every sport has a PHS Boosters team liaison, who is a member of the Board of Directors acting as a liaison among PHS Boosters and the student athletes, parents and coaches of that sport. Liaisons assist coaches in bringing grant requests for support of special needs to PHS Boosters, attend the team meeting for their respective sport and educate parents about PHS Boosters and encourage them to join.
Ex-officio members of the Boosters Board include the Principal and the Athletic Directors, a representative of the Parents’ Club and a representative of the Board of Education.
